KAAC Writing Assessment Position Paper

At the annual business meeting held Oct. 26, 2004, the membership of KAAC voted to draft a position paper concerning writing assessment in Kentucky.  The executive board drafted a document and accepted comments thorough November 2nd. The document linked below is the final position statement as authored by the executive board.

Writing Advisory Group Options

NOTE: This information is not an official statement or call for comment on behalf of the Kentucky Department of Education or the Kentucky State Board of Education. It is presented as a service to the membership of the Kentucky Association of Assessment Coordinators.

The information presented here is the product of a Writing Focus Group convened to advise the state board regarding issues related to writing assessment.  This group worked for two days in July and two days in August to draft the attached documents.

It should be noted that the board is not bound by any recommendation in whole or in part.  They have complete freedom to accept different parts of each recommendation or to reject them all together. The recommendations are merely to assist the board as they continue to explore the issue of writing assessment in Kentucky. The Writing Focus Group will meet at least one more time before final action is taken by the state board. For a further description of the process please visit the "Issues Brief" at the link below.
